NM Learn Russian in Kiev

Sporting Events

In Kiev, we love sports. There are several very nice stadiums and fields in the city where we play football (American soccer) and other sports.

Other sports played in Kiev on a professional and semi-professional level include basketball, swimming, weight training, and running.

The NM team can help you find games and tickets at reasonable prices (without having to pay the “foreigner surcharge”!) and we’d love to come with you!

NM Learn Russian in Kiev

Our football (American soccer) team “Dynamo-Kiev” is the best in Eastern Europe and a do-not-miss sporting event.

This year our Club has finally re-entered the elite of European soccer and will receive a grand welcome in its arena in downtown Kiev.

Clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan will come to play against us this fall.

We have already defeated the Russian champions Rubin-Kazan and expect to do the same with the others.

Also, Dynamo will play in the Ukrainian Championship which is fun to see. Tickets can be an issue therefore we plan our sports outings ahead of time.

Visiting a big soccer game in Kiev is just as safe as visiting a Minor League Baseball game in the States.

There is no football hooliganism or violence in Kiev and there is no hostility towards non-Dynamo fans. However, with so many people it is smart to know a few basic, important things.

Before going to a game we gather all in the School for basic instructions. We usually arrive by foot (20 min. walk) to the arena at least half hour before the game to avoid the general rush. You cannot bring outside beverages into the park, and alcohol is prohibited. Other things like umbrellas and cameras are okay to carry in. No alcohol is sold during the game or in the vicinity of the arena. Each game lasts about 90 minutes and has only one 15 minute break (no commercial breaks).

The big European league games take place on Tuesdays or Wednesdays starting late at 9:45 p.m. Ukrainian Championship games take place on weekends starting earlier – 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.

NM can take you to see one of these local games, or to a hockey rink or basketball arena. The friendly and exciting atmosphere in these places will be an experience you will not forget.

If you are also a sportsman, you will understand what we mean when we say that attending these games will teach you the “slang” you won’t find in your dictionary.
